Survive Outdoors Longer® Escape™ Bivvy

$50.00
The Survive Outdoors Longer® Escape™ Bivvy is nothing less than a revolution in backcountry shelters. The complaint with most ultra-light emergency shelters is the same: condensation builds up inside as you get warm, leaving your clothes soaking wet. With the Escape™ Bivvy, condensation is no longer an issue, and you never again have to choose between staying dry and staying warm. The proprietary fabric lets moisture escape at the same time that it keeps rain, snow, and wind on the outside – all while reflecting your body heat back to you. Waterproof seams plus a drawstring hood closure and side zip mean you can seal out the elements entirely or use the bivvy like a traditional sleeping bag, and the high-visibility orange exterior makes it easy for rescuers to spot you even in areas with high tree cover.

Leaks, Leaks, Leaks Review by yellowstonetodd

I had bought this bivy as it was described as breathable and my assumption was that it is waterproof. No, No, No, water resistant yes, but not proof. I was using it alone as a shelter in the Olympic mountains with my sleeping bag inside, a thunder storm came in and rather quickly the bivy failed. My down bag was wet. A much better, and cheaper product in my experience is the Adventure Medical Thermal Bivy for $30. It is warmer, waterproof and yes there is some condensation but with the design it is manageable. The Thermal Bivy is an excellent product and I have used it for years, durable and dependable. (Posted on 6/22/14)
Expensive For A Disposable Bivy! Review by Carl

The bivy keeps you warm and does breathe more than other emergency bivy bags. But the size is too small and tight to add a light sleeping bag for cold weather use, AND the zipper does not go down far enough to allow easy entry.

This is a problem for big guys---anyone over 6 feet tall and/or weighing more than 200 pounds. I don't think I could do the WORM dance with a Primaloft parka on in January and still get inside the bivy and be able to zip it up.

Make the zipper 5 feet long---like 3/4 long around the bag. Make the circumference in the chest area larger----like a real 72 to 80 inches. That would mean a width of 36 to 40 inches, which would allow a big guy to wear his insulated jacket in the bivy in a real emergency in snow or winter conditions.

Finally, they have an olive green model for military use, but I still question the durability of the fabric. I don't see the bivy making it past 1 season of use--especially in rocky or sandy terrain. For $50, I would think this bag should last several years. Otherwise, why not spend a bit more, and get a military surplus Goretex bivy for $75 to $100, and that will have the full length zipper, breathe well, be totally waterproof, and be very durable---with a lifetime of use! The perfect summer ultra-lite bag Review by ChurchMouse

I've now used this bivvy bag in high altitude wilderness settings several times and it works. Summertime high CA Sierra forest gets about 45f at night and i was still warm in this bag. I realize this bag is of confined space inside to reduce the amount of air your body has to heat but im a big guy. 6'5" 233 lbs and would like a bit more room at the top to move my arms a bit for comfort. The only thing i don't like about this bag is the width of the top for shoulder room. And since i use this bag recreational I'd like another color. I think Adventure Medical doesn't ABSOLUTELY have to stick to the "emergency" aspect of use. Its a fine product so get more customers by offering sises for bigger or smaller people and other colors. If you cant put more room in the top of this bag because of air heating issues, then what about all that space in the bottom when used by a short person. This fine bag is perfect for John Q Normal. Great idea anyway. (Posted on 1/16/14)
