May 6, 2011 - Littleton, NH

Tender Corp. today announced that it’s shipping a significant amount of its insect repellents and bite and sting treatment products to the Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue Service. The Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue Service, which encompasses the city’s fire and emergency medical services, will distribute the products to its staff and to area residents who have been hit hardest by the violent tornadoes that tore through Alabama a week ago.

“It’s May, it’s humid, we’ve had a lot of rain, and it’s Alabama – the mosquitoes are going to be really, really bad,” said Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue Service’s Fire & Life Safety Educator, Tilda Mimms.

Barely a week after the tornadoes touched down, the Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue Service’s 236 employees are still working around the clock in search and rescue mode, moving through the worst hit neighborhoods looking for any survivors and helping individual home owners to clear out trees and other debris from their properties.

“The level of damage here is unprecedented; we’ll be cleaning up for months,” Mimms added.

The tornadoes took the lives of 40 residents, knocked out electricity and destroyed countless homes, businesses and other structures, including one of the city’s 11 fire houses.

Tender and its outdoor division Adventure® Medical Kits have sent hundreds of units each of Natrapel® 8 hour and Ben’s® 100 insect repellent as well as bite and sting treatment AfterBite®.

“We hope the products provide some measure of comfort, as we know there will be many tough days ahead for both the emergency workers and the residents of Tuscaloosa,” said Tender Corp. CEO Jason Cartwright.

Mimms, who is anticipating a long, arduous cleanup in Tuscaloosa, encourages the public who are interested in contributing money, essential goods or their time to the relief effort in Tuscaloosa to call the Tuscaloosa Emergency Hotline: 205.248.5045 or visit
