LITTLETON, NH – (OCTOBER 22, 2010) – Tender Corp., a leading developer of over-the-counter topical creams and first aid products designed to promote active lifestyles, today confirmed its participation this weekend in the American Diabetes Association’s “Step Out Boston: Walk to Fight Diabetes”.

The event will raise awareness and funds for the American Diabetes Association’s fight to stomp out diabetes, a lifelong disease that occurs when the body is unable to produce or properly use insulin – a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy. Currently, there are 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes. Those with the disease face numerous health complications, including an increase in heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, nervous system disease and lower-limb amputations.

The Step Out walk will start at Boston Common on Saturday October 23rd at 10 am and conclude at 1 pm. Following the walk, Tender Corp. will participate in the ADA’s exhibitors’ section. Company representatives will be on hand to educate attendees on diabetes foot care options and on HealthiFeet®, Tender’s new topical foot cream designed to improve the foot health of people – including those battling diabetes -- who suffer from the pain associated with poor foot circulation. Tender reps will distribute thousands of sachet samples of HealthiFeet®, which is available in 1.8 oz and 4 oz tubes at Wallgreen’s stores in the Greater Boston area.

“We’re incredibly excited to be involved in Step Out Boston and look forward to talking to participants about the importance of committing to a foot care regimen,” said Tender brand manager Dave Anderson. He continued, “All of us at Tender know of colleagues, relatives or friends who are battling this disease and the serious effects it can have on their feet.”

People with diabetes are often afflicted with serious foot problems, which, if left untreated, can become deadly. Diabetes impairs blood flow to the feet. This loss of normal sensation in the feet often causes sores and ulcers to develop, which can become infected and ultimately require amputation. Poor circulation in the feet of people with diabetes results in 82,000 foot amputations each year. Studies show that half of patients who lose a foot to amputation die within five years. However, comprehensive foot care programs have been shown to reduce amputations by 50%.

When used as directed, the podiatrist-recommended HealthiFeet® has been clinically proven to increase blood flow by 33% - 35% and foot temperature by five to eight degrees. How does HealthiFeet® work? HealthiFeet® contains L-Arginine, a naturally occurring amino acid which the body uses to regulate circulation. The L-Arginine in HealthiFeet® is transported through the skin by a patented delivery system, restoring normal temperatures to cold feet and keeping them warm and healthy.
